BuyAGenerator is a free learning center for home backup power, created by Gregg Jahn. This page explains how our guides are made.
What we aim for
Our guides help you understand your options and make your own decision. We explain tradeoffs instead of pushing one product, brand or fuel type.
How guides are researched and written
- Guides draw on manufacturer documentation, owner’s manuals, public safety guidance, and Gregg’s own experience running generators, battery banks and solar at home and on his houseboat.
- AI tools assist with research, drafting and editing. Every guide is reviewed before it’s published.
- We don’t invent prices, runtimes or statistics. Where costs vary, we explain what drives them and suggest getting local quotes.
Safety comes first
Safety guidance on carbon monoxide, placement, fuel and connecting to your home’s wiring always defers to your owner’s manual, local codes and licensed professionals. Safety sections never include product promotions.
Updates and corrections
Each guide shows when it was last updated. We review guides as products, rules and tax credits change. If you spot an error, contact us and we’ll review and correct it.
Independence
No brand pays to write, review or edit our guides. If we ever add ads, affiliate links or sponsorships, we’ll label them clearly and explain them on this site.
